Veronica "Ronnie" Wright

April 18, 1961 — January 16, 2024

Lawnside

Ronnie’s smile could light up a room. Her great sense of humor while “keeping it real” naturally evoked happiness, especially with her infectious laugh. A fashionista with a pleasantness like no other. A sweet spirit God lent us.

Veronica Denise Wright, affectionately known as “Ronnie”, was born in Camden, N.J. on April 18, 1961. Her parents Janet “Skip” (Harper) and Berniel Wright, Sr. raised her and her younger brother, Berniel Wright, Jr.  An avid thumb sucker, Ronnie was popular, fun-loving, and the life of the party.  She enjoyed attending concerts and flaunting the latest fashion trends.

Ronnie attended Lawnside Public School where her mother worked as the school secretary. She would go on to attend Camden County Vocational School in Pennsauken, N.J. where she was a cheerleader and studied fashion design.  She graduated in June of 1979, showcasing the dress she’d made herself earlier that day!  With a desire to expand her creative talents, Ronnie enrolled in Wilford Academy of Cosmetology in Philadelphia earning her cosmetology license but later deciding to pursue a profession in the health insurance industry. Her career began as a Claims Adjuster with Colonial Penn. Soon after, she transferred to Travelers Insurance Company, then to UAU and finally to AmeriHealth Caritas. Here, she worked for the next 23 years until her unforeseen retirement.

Besides having a stellar work ethic, Ronnie was known for her thoughtfulness and was coined “The Calendar Lady.”  She remembered and celebrated everyone’s birthday or anniversary, contributing to a friendly morale. She was also known for being a tremendous supporter in fundraisers, as she was in her community as well. Despite not having biological children, Ronnie was a visibly proud and protective aunt to her nieces and nephews & her 10 great-nieces and great-nephews.  Her love showed through as a motherly love and her devotion was evident.  She was an integral part of each of their lives with a compassion second to none. Ronnie loved her family! She eagerly looked forward to family events and special occasions. She was often first to arrive at a Harper family gathering and enjoyed reminiscing and laughing.

She took pleasure in coordinating her apparel, nails, and accessories for these gatherings which usually included a hat. She adored her Lawnside family too!  As a proud native, Ronnie attended most community cabarets, Lawnside Days, games at the park, and Friday nights “under the horse.” She was effortlessly the center of the party sometimes while sitting in her car!  She was a longtime fan of the Los Angeles Rams and there were many Amazon boxes on her porch after they won Superbowl LVI in 2022.

Ronnie was a member of Mt. Zion U.M. Church in Lawnside, whereas a teen, she participated in the youth ministry and loved singing in the young adult choir under the direction of Aunt Gerri. As an adult she supported various youth ministries like the Echoes of Zion and Genesis Praise Dancers. When her health began to pose limitations, she continued her worship with her church family online. No matter the challenge, she kept a praise in her heart.

God whispered to Ronnie on January 16, 2024. She obediently answered, surrounded by her brother, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  There will forever be places where we will go, songs that we will hear (she loved her old slow jams!), and events that we will attend which will remind us of her.  We are all lucky to have had her in our lives.

She was preceded in death by her mother Janet “Skip” Wright, and leaves to mourn her father Berniel Wright, Sr. (Mary Ellen); her brother Berniel Wright, Jr., Uncle Franklin “Buster” Harper, Sr. (Elaine), aunt Kathleen Rose (Walter), and Uncle Robert Harper, Jr., nephews, Lamar, Andrew and Gregory; nieces, Cheyanne and India; 10 great nieces and great nephews; Godson Gavin; a “favorite” Cousin Frankie; her special Boo, and a host of other cousins and friends.
