Reginald E. Forbey, Jr., lovingly known as Chopper or Reggie, passed away on August 30, 2023, leaving behind a rich tapestry of memories and a legacy of resilience, compassion, and laughter. He was born on July 10, 1965, in Pleasantville to the late Margaret Forbey and Reginald Forbey Sr.
From an early age, Reggie had an infectious spirit and a natural gift for bringing joy to those around him. He attended schools in the Pleasantville school district, where he laid the foundation for a life that would touch countless hearts.
Reggie's career spanned various roles, including warehouse work at Kensington Furniture, UPS, and Costco. Through his dedication and strong work ethic, he made lasting connections with his colleagues and was respected for his dependability.
Beyond his professional life, Reggie had a multitude of interests that brought him immense joy. He had a talent for cutting hair and would often lend his skills to help friends and family look their best. As an avid sports enthusiast, he could be found enthusiastically cheering on his favorite football teams. Funk music also held a special place in Reggie's heart; he found solace and joy in its melodies. And there was nothing quite like seeing him light up the room during one of his unforgettable karaoke performances.
Reggie's quick wit and playful sense of humor were legendary. His hilarious jokes and cheerful spirit were contagious, brightening even the darkest of days for those fortunate enough to know him. He had a way of finding the silver lining in any situation and spreading laughter wherever he went.
One of Reggie's proudest accomplishments was overcoming addiction by graduating from the Fresh Start Program and using his experience to help others struggling with similar challenges. He became a dedicated counselor for his group called Hope and Healing at Up your Alley, offering support and guidance to those seeking their own path to recovery. Additionally, Reggie was in the midst of writing a book titled "From Crack to Christ," aiming to inspire others with his journey of redemption and faith. Up your Alley honored him by naming their library after him.
Reggie was a faithful member of New Fellowship UAME Church in Camden, NJ. His favorite scripture to quote Psalm 118:17 "I shall live and not die and declare the works of the Lord.
Reggie's legacy also extends to his loving family and cherished friendships. He will forever be remembered by the love of his life Angela Forbey and their children Brittany, Justin, Siani, Kataya, Kway Byrd, as well as his stepchildren Arnold Gordon, Patrick Clark, Raymond Clark, Brittany Robinson, Brianna Everett. Reggie's grandchildren Amina, Amaya, Zane, Tyro, Savion, Malachi held a special place in his heart and brought him immeasurable joy. He leaves behind siblings Angela Haines, Regina Forbey (Deedee), Debora White (Debbie), Patricia Falcon (Patsy), and sister-in-law Michaelette Henry. Reggie shared a deep bond with his mother-in-law Reverend Juanita Henry and brother-in-law Nolan Henry. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who will forever cherish the memories of his infectious laughter and kind-hearted nature.
Reggie's departure has left an irreplaceable void in our lives. However, as we gather to honor him and celebrate the beautiful life he lived, let us remember the incredible impact he had on those around him. Today we bid farewell to an extraordinary soul who brought laughter and light wherever he went – a true embodiment of love and joy.
