Camden

Latisha ‘Joy’ Wilkins, 55, of Camden, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023, at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Camden, New Jersey, on March 3rd, 1968, to Lola Mae Atkinson and Howard E. Wilkins. Latisha was raised in New Jersey with her three siblings and enjoyed spending time with her cousins and neighborhood friends. She attended Camden City Public schools, where she formed lifelong friendships.

Latisha found joy in spending time with her grandchildren, whom she cherished dearly. She made it a priority to be present at their sports events and birthday celebrations. Latisha lovingly took care of her grandchildren during weekends and throughout the summer, often showcasing her cooking skills that they adored. Her warm and welcoming nature extended beyond her family, as she embraced newcomers in the neighborhood and was known for her open-heartedness. Her individuality and sense of humor drew people to her, and she was never afraid to speak her mind while also offering constructive criticism. Above all, Latisha had a natural gift for nurturing others and became a mentor to many. She was always willing to lend support in times of need, regardless of the circumstances. Her reliability and commitment to keeping her promises earned her the trust of those who considered her a confidant. If you were lucky enough to know Latisha well, you knew she had your back.

Many admired Latisha for her numerous talents, including songwriting and poetry. She had a keen eye for fashion and loved getting dressed up, always commanding attention whenever she entered a room. Her unique style and beautiful smile earned her the nickname 'Pretty Joy.' Latisha also enjoyed dancing and actively participated in her church community.

She was a member of Healing Word Worship Center in Camden, New Jersey, along with Community Baptist Church. Latisha had a deep and genuine relationship with God, and her faith was an integral part of her life.

While the loss of Latisha brings sorrow, we celebrate the nurturing and spirited personality she embodied. We are grateful and blessed to have the wonderful memories she leaves behind.

Latisha is preceded in death by her parents, Howard E. Wilkins and Lola Mae Atkinson, her daughter Nortisha Wilkins, and her stepfather Donovan Archie.

She is survived by her loving children Curtis Miller, Ryan Wilkins, Nazir Wilkins, and Kevin Wilkins, her brothers Toekay Wilkins and Nolan Wilkins, her sister Monique Wilkins, and her beloved grandchildren.
