Henry Lee Brown, fondly known as “Brownie/Brown Shoes” was born February 23, 1936 to Thurston Brown and Hellen Holmes in Laurens, South Carolina. At the age of Eighty Seven years old, he was called to glory, Monday, August 7th, 2023 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

 

Henry Lee was the oldest of eleven children.  He attended School in Asheville, North Carolina and graduated from Stephens Lee High School.  After High School, he joined the Military and served in the Army June 1954.  He received an Honorable

discharge July, 1974, after serving for twenty years.  He met Lillie Pearl Fogle in Columbia, South Carolina, and they were married November 17th, 1959.  They lived in Lawton, Oklahoma were Henry (Brownie) was stationed at Fort Seal Army Base. After 39 years of marriage, she passed away February 1999. They had one daughter, Deborah C. Fogle, who passed away, January 2018.

 

Henry (Brownie) loved watching Football.  “Let’s go Eagles”, he would say.  He also liked Nascar Racing, True Crime, 60 Minutes, Family Feud, reading books, traveling with family, going to Old Country Buffet with the family; especially with his two great

grandsons, Rhamire and Nagee, but over it all, relaxing by himself.

 

Henry (Brownie) did Security for over twenty years with Tech Data Security until he retired. He lived in Glassboro, New Jersey for over twenty years until his daughter, Deborah, passed away in 2018.  He moved to Philadelphia, PA with his granddaughter, Natosha to care for him.  Henry was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he went on Sundays with his wife Lil and sister-in-law, Rosa.

 

He leaves to cherish his memories, two granddaughters, Natosha and Melissa; two great grandsons, Rhamire and Nagee (Phila. PA); nine siblings, Katherine, Mary, Martha, Betty Mae, Bessie, Sharon, James, Gary, and Teresa (Asheville, NC); four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.

 

Henry was predeceased by his wife, Lillie P. Brown (February 1999); his daughter, Deborah C. Fogle (January 2018); his

parents, Thurston Brown and Hellen Holmes; In-Laws, Leaver Fogle and Sarah Dockery; sister, Brenda Brown; and seven

brothers-in-law.
