Frederick Simpson was born November 29, 1942. He was the son of Madeline Simpson and Frederick Simpson.
He went to public school in Newark, NJ, and later came to live in Camden, NJ in the early 20’s. While in Camden, he met Mrs. Rosa White. She took him in, and she became his God Mom. Along his journey, he met Ray Williams while living in Camden. Ray introduced him to Mrs. Ella Allen and Samuel Allen. They also took to him, and they became his parents. He then met Isabelle Ferguson and they started their own family. From that relationship they had three sons and five stepchildren. They stayed together until her timely death. Freddie loved all his family near and far. Especially his grandchildren, they were his world. Every time he watched them, these grands never had to worry about anything, because grandpop made sure they had whatever they wanted. Whenever we all gathered together, and the music was playing he would always do his signature dance. So much fun and lots of laughter.
He had many jobs! But his two favorite was working as a D.J. in City Hall. He became known as (DJ Fred). He would take all of us to his job and show us how he DJ on the Air. We loved it, right along with him. Then he took on another job after that. Working at Campbell Soup, now this job he enjoyed working at the most. We never went hungry. We had all kinds of Campbell Soup food. Umm Umm good as they said.
Freddie will always be remembered for his signature dancing. For his volunteering services thru out the community. For his duty to serve as the (“Mayor of Camden”) because that’s what everyone called him. He was the man of the hour and the life of the party. He touched so many lives thru out his journey. From corner to corner and state to state. He will be sorely missed by all.
He leaves to cherish 3 sons, Frederick Ferguson, Sylvester Ferguson, and Keith Ferguson; 6 Step Children, Ella Fisher, Emily Ferguson (deceased), Kathleen Little (Melvin), Emanuel Ferguson (deceased), Bernice Ferguson, and LaQuinta Law; 10 Grandchildren; 15 Great Grandchildren; 7 Sisters and 2 Brothers; 1 Specially loved cousin: Aunt Bert (Raberta Andrews); 1 Specially loved cousin: Raymond Andrews; 3 Loved God Nieces, Natasha, Samone, and Nikki.
