Daniel Hickman, Jr., of Gloucester City, New Jersey, formerly of Woodstown, Pennsgrove, and Paulsboro, New Jersey
departed this life on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Jefferson Hospital, Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He was born June 12, 1949 in Rexburg, Virginia, to the late Daniel Hickman, Sr. and Frances Lillian Hickman. He was the fourth of five children and their only son.
Danny, aka, “Big Time”, attended school in the Pedricktown, Woodstown, and Pennsgrove school systems. His first job was at the General Motors Corporation in Wilmington, Delaware where he worked for several years. He was later employed by BF Goodrich, Pedricktown, New Jersey. He also held several jobs with various companies during his lifetime, the last of which was with Repauno Auctions in Gibbstown, New Jersey.
Danny was baptized at an early age by Rev. K. D. Tunstall, Second Baptist Church, Pedricktown, New Jersey. Big Time loved to read the Bible. He read it every day and he kept a dictionary close by so that he could look up the words he did not understand. But, as far as he was concerned, one of the best things ever invented was the computer and the Internet. His
go-to was Google. Ask him a question and he would say, Google said……
Danny, “Big Time”, had a heart of gold and was loved by all who knew him and he loved them in return. In his youth, he had a passion for singing -- and he could sing very well. He had a beautiful singing voice. During his younger years, he played baseball with teams from Pennsgove and Carneys Point, New Jersey. He also had a great fondness for playing pool, the race track and the casinos.
He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters: Francine Hickman Smallwood, Hope Hickman Smith, and Leah Jenkins Long (Mike); 14 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren. Four sisters: Elizabeth Jean Johnson, Carneys Point, NJ, Frances (Cissy) Harvey, Fredericksburg, VA, Carolyn Tyson, Mullica Hill, NJ, and Patricia Hickman-Miller, Homestead, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
