Clarence A. Johnson was born August 28, 1958 to parents William and Blanche Johnson. He was the third oldest of 10 siblings. Blessed with 65 years of life, Clarence departed this earthly realm on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
Better known as "Geechie", he made the decision to leave school early and pursued his interest in construction, laboring alongside our father. In doing so, he was mentored in brick masonry. He persisted in this vocation while honing his skills and demonstrating his ability as a capable craftsman. Desiring to fly solo, and having become proficient in his trade, he went on to operate independently until ill-health ushered him into retirement.
Aside from construction being his first love, "Geechie" enjoyed dabbling in cabinetry, tinkering with a mishmash of items needing repair and fishing. He considered himself the next "Chef Boyardee" in the kitchen, recreating dishes our mother/grandmother would make for us, i.e., rice pudding. Then there was the "WaWa Greet & Meet", where his fellow caffeine addicts assembled daily, consuming coffee) and trading quips. Oh, and yes, socializing with his road dogs ... cousins Richard, Henry and Fred, and friends Chris and Larry (predeceased). If you ever engaged him in conversation, he habitually ended his monologue with "blah blah ..... n stuff', meaning he was done with it. As the catchphrases go, "To know him is to love him" and "What you see is what you get".
Geechie's spiritual journey led him to the House of Hope Fellowship Ministry, where he fellowshipped under the tutelage of Pastor Clora Reaves. As his walk with the Lord evolved, he came to understand the importance of being saved and accepted the Lord into his life. While he may not have been a perfect work in the Lord:, he was a work progress. Though health issues prevented him from being as active as he would have liked, his zeal for life and his desire to remain independent never waned. In his transition, may peace, comfort and joy be his reward.
Clarence is predeceased by parents, Blanche Jean Johnson and William Gustin Johnson; a sibling, William Johnson and beloved soulmate/co-parent, Tonya Jones.
He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter and son: Ladia Jones and Lamarr Jones; stepdaughters, Latia and Latoya Jones. (all of whom he co-parented with Tonya Jones); and stepchildren, Willard, and Harold, Zina Jones. (from his previous marriage with Brenda Jones), Clarence is also survived by (8) siblings: Victoria Walker, Daryl, Shirley Minatee, Sherry Smith (Spencer), Bernard, Darnell, Alicia, and Yeumeka Wilmer (Andre'). And a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Lovingly Submitted, The Family
